About Better With Bowe — Coaching Psychology

Hi, I’m John Bowe. I blend psychology and coaching to help you see where you are, where you want to go, and the next small step to get there—indoors or out on safe, gentle trails.

Why nature + questions?
In a world moving faster every week, it’s easy to drift from the outdoors. We’re not separate from nature—we’re part of it. Step outside, and your thoughts often stretch out too. A gentle walk, good questions, and time to think can open space for answers that feel more like you. People don’t come to me for answers—they come for better questions. The right questions slow things down, surface what matters, and make the next step obvious.

Why I do this

My work has taken me from addiction support to alternative education and into primary and secondary schools. No matter the setting, the pattern is clear: when you’re seen for your strengths and the steps stay small, things start to shift. That’s why I hold a calm, non-judgemental space, ask thoughtful questions, and keep progress practical—so the next step feels doable.

I hold the space; you find the answers.

What working together feels like
Warm, respectful, and straightforward—no jargon, no pressure. We’ll keep the wins small and doable, check what’s working, and adjust as we go. You set the pace; I match the stride

Frequently Asked Questions

Coaching psychology is a collaborative, future-focused process that helps you clarify goals, build resilience, and unlock strengths. Unlike therapy, which often addresses past trauma or mental health conditions, coaching is about moving forward, developing practical strategies, and supporting positive change.
I work primarily with adolescents and young adults (ages 16–25) as they navigate key life transitions. This includes 6th Class pupils moving into secondary school (Brave Beginnings), Transition Year students (Thrive Inside), early school leavers in Youthreach, and young adults in training or college. I also work with adults returning to education or preparing for new career pathways.

One-to-one coaching can take place outdoors in one of three Wexford locations: Gorey Park, Camolin Woods, or Cahore Cliff Walk. These natural settings make it easier to relax, think clearly, and have open conversations. Indoor sessions are also available at the Palms Health and Wellbeing Centre in Gorey, especially when the Irish weather doesn’t cooperate. Online video and phone coaching are available for added flexibility.

The first session is a chance to explore what you’d like to focus on and what outcomes matter most to you. I’ll explain how coaching works, answer any questions, and together we’ll set initial goals. It’s a collaborative process designed to put you at ease and ensure the sessions meet your needs.
Each one-to-one coaching session lasts 50 minutes. School workshops and programmes are designed with flexibility in mind. Brave Beginnings runs for 90 minutes, while post-primary workshops can be adapted to suit school schedules, with options for 2-hour, 4-hour, or 6-hour sessions depending on what works best for the group.
That depends on your goals. Many clients choose weekly or fortnightly sessions to build momentum. Others spread sessions out to give time to reflect and practice strategies. Package options (4 or 6 sessions) provide flexibility and support meaningful progress over time.
  • One-to-one coaching: €100 per session (50 minutes).

  • Packages: Step Forward (4 sessions) €360 • Momentum Builder (6 sessions) €520.

  • Video/phone coaching: €80 per session, with reduced package rates.

  • Schools & group workshops: Pricing varies depending on duration (2-hour, half-day, or full-day). Custom packages like Thrive Inside and Brave Beginnings are available for schools and training centres.

That’s completely normal. Outdoor coaching is not a hike — it’s a relaxed walk at your pace, with breaks whenever needed. Many young people find it easier to talk side-by-side rather than face-to-face, and nature provides a calm backdrop that supports fresh thinking.
I am a member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI) Coaching Psychology Division and trained in evidence-based coaching psychology. Programmes like Thrive Inside and Brave Beginnings are built on positive psychology frameworks and align with Irish school transition and wellbeing priorities, offering both credibility and impact.
